POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the General Manager, this position manages the Vitrified Clay Pipe Sales group; and is responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

  • Work with VCP Sales group in an oversight position to:
  • Develop, implement and maintain strategic direction as it relates to VCP product lines, customers and markets.
  • Provide direction on sales representative training and management:
      • Conduct weekly sales meetings.
      • Supervise the follow up of project bids, quotations and submittals to ensure sales and production goals.
      • Provide technical support to active clay projects, including training contractors and municipalities.
      • Engage in necessary activities to convert agencies and jurisdictions to Clay.
      • When appropriate recruit and develop staff to ensure succession of the current staff.
  • Work with the group General Manager to develop annual sales and expense budgets in alignment with the VCP strategic plans.
  • Continuously monitor, analyze and report sales and customer data to maximize sales opportunity and profit. Establish acceptable pricing and margins. Participate in monthly financial review process.
  • Develop relationships with current key customers in existing markets and potential new customers.
  • In cooperation with NCPI participate in technical workshops to support promotional efforts.

  • This position must have an appreciation for and working knowledge of the Operations functions that support the sales effort and will work to harmonize these functions with the sales effort. Key to this are good relations and regular and open communication with:
      • Quality Control Manager
      • Internal Sales teams
      • Plant Managers and Assistant Plant Managers
  • Attend safety meetings and abide by all safety rules set forth by company and governmental regulatory agencies and ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time by the Company or designated representatives.
  • Regular attendance is required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business-related major preferred)
  • Five years’ sales experience and five years’ managerial experience, preferably in building materials industry.
  • Exhibit leadership that earns the respect of subordinates, peers and upper management.
  • Provide strategic direction as it relates to Sales and Marketing.
  • A management philosophy that emphasizes coaching and training.
  • Familiarity with sales representative incentive plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with customers, internal personnel and industry associates.

  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Effective reading and comprehension skills.
  • Basic math skills and ability to utilize spreadsheets in analysis.
  • Ability to understand and act upon financial information, including sales and expense budgets.
  • Ability to analyze sales and margin data to identify trends and optimize market share and profitability.
  • Ability to operate PC, tablet, smart phone, projector.
  • Effectively utilize Office software including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to run, comprehend and analyze sales and margin reports generated from SAP.
  • Ability to operate automobile, copier, facsimile, scanner, and any other equipment required to perform duties 
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Must have a valid CA Driver’s license
  • Must have a valid Passport

  • Approximately 50% of air and automobile travel time required.
