POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for the planning and management of raw material mining activities. Oversees the work of the Lab, Quality Control, and technical and plant engineering areas. Provides training, technical skills and assistance to plant personnel responsible for mining, lab, and safety/ environmental duties. Organizes and manages multiple operational initiatives focusing on improving efficiencies and overall operational excellence, or as directed by the Plant Manager or Plant Superintendent and performs safety-related duties as directed by the EHS Manager. This position may include other duties as needed to facilitate daily plant production or to gain additional knowledge for growth and is responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation, and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Coaches, trains, instructs, disciplines, and offers guidance to all direct reports.
• Conducts performance reviews for direct reports and advises on year-end performance reviews for all personnel via SuccessFactors (HRIS).
• Makes critical hiring and firing decisions.
• Works with HR for recruiting, selection, and onboarding of personnel.
• Monitors and approves employee actions in SFSF (HRIS) in a timely manner.
• Responsible for time data audit reports of recorded time and errors and track attendance
• Plans sequence of mining campaigns and determines budget for mining.
• In coordination with Plant Manager, responsible for ordering of clay raw materials, mine overburden removal and reclamation activities. Coordinates all changes and implementation of most outside purchased raw materials and ingredients.
• Oversees the reconciling of the clay hauling bill by contractors.
• Pursues information and bids on 50% of machinery and new equipment purchases.
• Provides daily guidance and direction to raw materials manager/ grinding operations manager.
• Prepares notices of Intent to Mine, Reclamation bond forms, mine plans, maps and other necessary regulatory items for the State of Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Oil, Gas and Mining.
• Meets with property owners to mine property.
• Coordinates Lab/ QC/QA activities. Maintains documentation for green brick sizes and other controlled documentation such as additive addition rates and clay mix compositions.
• Builds, monitors and shares responsibility for the QC/QA records & Quality Systems Manual.
• Provides guidance and assistance on technical problems that occur.
• Works on multiple projects or assignments concurrently.
• Must be able to advise and track multiple departments initiatives and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Audit potential and new acquisitions to evaluate the status of programs, level of hazardous conditions or equipment and current level of management participation. To assimilate, develop and project accumulated data into a course of action that will transform the acquisition into safe, healthy, and productive workplace.

• Produce high quality solutions for projects, and can apply manufacturing managers, in areas leading to successful promotion and completion of training research and developmental projects.
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time by the company or its designated representative.
• Complies with current 5S Housekeeping standards and requested protocol.
• Must have the availability and flexibility to travel to various other company locations to aid among potential projects at such various locations within the company.
• Attends safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by company and governmental regulatory agencies; ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
• Predictable and Regular attendance is required.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Requires bachelor’s degree and/or 15+ years’ experience in the manufacturing of concrete building materials and/ or structural/ veneer clay building materials.
• Engineering coursework required.
• Ten of more years of experience directing manufacturing operations, including budgeting, procurement, maintenance, and product innovation, preferably in brick manufacturing.
• Extensive knowledge of raw material mining and brick production.
• Requires excellent oral and written communication as well as mathematical skills.
• Ability to operate a personal computer, and Microsoft Office 365 is required.
• Must be able to receive and give direction equally & demonstrate patience with new employees.
• Must have a genuine compassion for co-workers & care how their environment affects them.
• Must be a self-starter and work effectively in a team-based environment.
• Be willing to obtain additional safety certifications as directed by the EHS Manager.
• Must possess a valid Utah State Driver’s license, maintaining a clean record.
• Must possess a valid passport for the infrequent chance that international travel is needed to attend machine tradeshows and/or vendor supported visitation requests.
• Predictable and Regular attendance is required.
