Muddox joined Pacific Coast Building Products in 1980 and now supplies a large distributor network with clay products that include standard face brick, thin brick, flue liners, pavers, pool coping, and structural brick. H.C. Muddox also offers custom shapes, sizes and colors in a range of products.

 

(SUPERVISOR, MAINTENANCE)

 

WHAT THIS ROLE LOOKS LIKE: Under the supervision of the Plant Manager, this position supports the maintenance in all areas of the maintenance department and production. This position is responsible for ensuring that proper preventative maintenance activities are being executed to maximize machinery and equipment life and performance, while collaborating with the plant operations team to proactively address and respond to any issues that impact machine uptime. This position is responsible for effective and positive management; and is responsible for demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Maintenance

 

  • Complies with current 5S Housekeeping standards and requested protocol.
  • Motivates, trains, plans, organizes, and directs a team of electricians and mechanics.
  • Makes recommendations on the hiring, promotion, retention, and discipline of maintenance department employees.
  • Analyzes and determines cause of equipment malfunctions.
  • Designs, installs, maintains, calibrates, and repairs all electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Repairs and rebuilds electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic motors, cylinders, pumps, clutches, and gear boxes.
  • Welds to install, repair or build equipment, machinery, or facilities
  • Determines cost effectiveness of repairing parts in-house versus contracting out for repairs.
  • Performs everyday maintenance of tools and shop.
  • Interfaces with outside consultants and experts as needed.
  • Fills out and maintains maintenance logs and associated paperwork and answers telephone.
  • Operates forklift, man-lift, welders, lathe, cutting torches and any other shop equipment required to perform duties.
  • Must be able to attend training schools.
  • Maintains, installs and repairs plumbing.
  • Writes and updates blueprints and calibrates instruments.
  • Assists in determining needed materials and completes necessary requests for purchasing department.
  • Operates cutting torch, drills, grinders and performs other machine and work as required and any other equipment required to perform duties.
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time by the company or its designated representative. 

 

Manufacturing

 

  • Oversees all plant personnel during their shift
  • Oversees all employees in the following areas:  Machine Operators, Sorters, Laborers, Plant Forklift Operators, and Raw Material Operators.
  • Responsible for producing to the schedule provided by the Plant Superintendent, Production Assistant or Plant Manager.
  • Responsible for minimizing down time in various areas of production.
  • Ability to make quick production related decisions to optimized efficiencies.
  • Responsible for controlling batching and color systems.
  • Responsible for reporting breakdowns to the Production Manager or Plant Manager and Maintenance Department.
  • Responsible for training and/or cross-train employees within the plant.
  • Participates in hiring and disciplinary actions of employees as needed.
  • Coach, train, instruct and offer guidance to all subordinates.
  • Hold team accountable to meeting production schedule and production objectives.
  • Perform annual reviews for direct reports in SuccessFactors (HRIS), engage in employee development and discipline as applicable.
  • Manage employees within state guidelines for breaks, lunches, etc. and apply best practice as it relates to labor, parts and maintenance spending.
  • Work with HR for recruiting and hiring assistance.
  • Responsible for monitoring and approving employee actions in EC (HRIS) in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for reviewing daily time and attendance reports of recorded time and errors and track attendance via payroll system for all regular and temp employees.
  • Responsible for reviewing daily meal and rest break attestation reports and relatable forms as needed.
  • Act as backup for subordinate positions as needed.
  • Responsible for coordinating plant employee schedules with the HR/Payroll Coordinator.
  • Keep work areas clean including bins, ramps and material areas.
  • Attends safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by the company and governmental regulatory agencies, ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
  • Predictable and Regular attendance is required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  • Requires advanced mechanical skills in the following areas:  electrical repairs and installation, electronics, heating and air conditioning, hydraulics, pneumatics, general construction, blueprint reading and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to operate meggers, voltage tester, special hand tools and any other equipment required to perform duties.
  • Be competent using a computer and different programs
  • On-the-job training experience is required to be able to perform duties.
  • Requires basic reading, writing and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to operate front loader, forklift, extruder, batching and color system and any other equipment required to perform duties.
  • Knowledge of mix designs, and overall plastics characteristics and product specifications.
  • Requires extrusion knowledge and the distinction of various plastic profiles.
  • Adequate experience operating all plant machinery.
  • Previous experience as a production operator.
  • The ability to manage and motivate others effectively.
  • Trouble shooting skills including machine electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and overall knowledge of the machinery involved in making landscaping and composite plastic products.
  • Ability to multi-task and be a working supervisor if necessary.
  • Predictable and Regular attendance is required.
