Muddox joined Pacific Coast Building Products in 1980 and now supplies a large distributor network with clay products that include standard face brick, thin brick, flue liners, pavers, pool coping, and structural brick. H.C. Muddox also offers custom shapes, sizes and colors in a range of products.

 

(MAINTENANCE MECHANIC I)

 $22.00 - $26.00 / Depending on Qualifications and Experience

 

 WHAT THIS ROLE LOOKS LIKE:  Under the supervision of the Plant Manager, this position maintains, repairs, installs, and fabricates/builds equipment and machinery; and is responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following and other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.                                                                      

  • Welds to install, repair or build equipment, machinery or facilities
  • Operates cutting torch, drills, grinds and performs other machinery work as needed
  • Maintains, installs and repairs plumbing
  • Quickly Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctioning equipment
  • Performs everyday maintenance of tools and shop 
  • Operates forklift, man-lift, welders, lathe, cutting torches and any other shop equipment required to perform duties
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time by the company or its designated representative
  • Attends safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by company and governmental regulatory agencies; ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules, including weekends
  • Regular attendance is required, including overtime when deemed necessary by the Plant Manager

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of two years technical training in any of the fields listed: welding, cutting, machine work, plumbing, are a plus.
  • Electrical background and knowledge required
  • Three years’ prior experience in welding, cutting, machine work, plumbing, motors, starters, relays, plant electrical systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and mechanics, and blueprints or equivalent with demonstrated competence required
  • Requires advanced mechanical skills, creative skills and coordination
  • Must have forklift experience and be certifiable, along with the ability to operate a man-lift, lathe, welders, cutting torches, and any other shop equipment required to perform duties
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate efficiently
  • Requires advanced mathematical skills
  • Ability to work within a team unit and communicate openly and respectfully to others, in order to efficiently accomplish task at hand.
  • Ability to problem solve and to work independently required
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules, including weekends

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • 6 or more hours per day of standing, walking, sitting, climbing, kneeling, reaching, bending, talking/listening and must be able to smell.  Required to use fingers and hands; lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., for up to 2 to 5 hours per day, and up-to 100 lbs., 1 to 2 hours per day.
  • Very minimal travel time may be required for training, parts pickup etc.

Must wear mandatory and/or other appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.   

  • Plant environment with 5 or more hours per day of exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions and risk of electrical shock
  • 2 to 5 hours per day of exposure to vibration
  • Potential exposure to wet, humid conditions, high places toxic chemical and extreme heat
  • Outdoor weather conditions
  • Extreme temperatures
