POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Plant Engineer, this position supports the plant location in all areas of Environmental, Health & Safety; and Quality Control. This position is also responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

  • Direct the Safety initiative in the plant.
  • Make sure employees including temporary employees receive safety training prior to beginning work.
  • Ensure company–required programs are maintained.
  • Complete monthly plant safety inspection and track written action items resulting from those inspections.
  • Prepare and present topics for weekly safety meetings.
  • Ensure that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
  • Ensure that OSHA 300 form is maintained and posting requirements are met.
  • Track and order safety and first aid supplies by following purchasing policy.
  • Ensure all accidents and injuries are properly investigated and written reports are accurately describing the circumstances surrounding the accident/injury.
  • Ensures the location meets all OSHA/MSHA requirements.
  • Ensures record keeping and documentation requirements are met.
  • Test and inspect raw materials, first articles, work-in-progress and finished goods to ensure they meet established standards for quality and conformity.
  • Report finished product variations / changes in strength, raw material content / quality, color and finish to management.  Recommend corrective action when appropriate.
  • Document lab test results to monitor and trend material / product conformity.
  • Update / develop quality processes, procedures and documentation, make changes as required.
  • Must be able travel to other company locations to conduct safety audits and attend safety conferences.
  • Analyze raw material batching process (belt count, scales, etc.,) to make sure mix designs do not fluctuate and establish/monitor calibration plan to maintain accuracy. Report weekly on quality within the plant and testing trends / results.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time by the company or its designated representatives.
  • Abides by all safety rules set forth by the company and governmental regulatory agencies; and ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
  • Predictable and Regular in-person attendance is required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High School education or equivalent, 4-year degree is preferred
  • 5 years’ experience environmental health and safety and laboratory procedures and in a production environment.
  • Ability and desire to learn the testing procedures for concrete products and aggregate, and safety requirements including employee training, documentation and reordering.
  • Lean Manufacturing, 5S, corrective action / preventative action experience preferred
  • Ability to use and operate various types of testing equipment and machines, forklifts, mixers and computer.
  • Requires clerical and basic computer knowledge skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written.
  • Ability to obtain a certificate to operate forklifts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and mathematical skills.
  • Experience in public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability and desire to learn skills needed to perform duties.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Predictable and Regular attendance is required.

  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; Reach with hands and arms; Talk and listen; Stand, walk, and sit.
  • Occasionally required to bend at the waist; Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Up to 15% travel time required to attend conferences and safety audits at other facilities.

Salary Range $55,000 - $65,000 / Annually, DOE and Qualifications
