POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Mine Superintendent, this position supports the Dayton Mine in all areas of operation. Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment, handle production, maintenance and repairs on heavy mining equipment. The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of multiple pieces of mining equipment including Excavators, Loaders, Dozers and Graders, Water Trucks, Haul Truck and other pieces of equipment as well as the Aggregate Crushing Plant. Performs other related duties as assigned.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


  • Performs daily pre-operational inspections.
  • Checks and maintains equipment in safe operation condition.
  • Safely operates vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs Crusher plant maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs Crusher plant housekeeping to company standards.
  • Load material on over-the-road trucks and fill out weight tickets.
  • Performs and documents daily preoperational inspections on equipment and work areas
  • Forklift operation is required
  • Regularly meets with supervisor
  • Maintains work area clean and clutter free per company standards
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time by the company or its designated representatives
  • Attends safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by company and governmental regulatory agencies; ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
  • May be asked to work overtime, including weekends
  • Regular attendance is required.


QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One-year of Heavy equipment operation knowledge preferred, but not required.
  • On-the-job training experience is required to be able to perform duties
  • Forklift operational experience is beneficial.
  • Requires basic reading and writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate and interact both verbally and written.
  • Basic mathematics and counting is required.
  • Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude in general and adequate knowledge of heavy equipment.
  • Must have good analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Must have the ability to supervise own work and be self-motivated
  • Must have attention to detail, commitment to task and safety record.
  • Must be able to mount and dismount mobile equipment via ladders, stairs and grab irons.
  • Ability to operate heavy mining and aggregate production equipment on rough terrain.
  • Ability to work safely in and around other mobile equipment in often congested areas
  • Ability to maintain awareness of surroundings.
  • Ability to recognize and eliminate workplace hazards.
  • Operation of mobile electronic equipment may be required. 
  • Regular attendance is required.

  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; Reach with hands and arms; Talk and listen; Stand, walk, and sit.
  • Occasionally climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling may be required.
  • Occasionally required to bend at the waist.
  • Must be able to lift up-to 50 pounds frequently
  • Climb on-and-off equipment frequently.
